Krista Brittain, Psy.D.

Licensed Clinical Psychologist | Health Service Provider

Dr. Krista Brittain is a Licensed Psychologist specializing in assessment. She grew up in various parts of Iowa and the greater Midwest. After completing her undergraduate education in Psychology and Dance at the University of Iowa, she attended the University of Denver in Colorado for a Master of Arts and Doctor of Psychology in Clinical Psychology. Dr. Brittain completed an internship at the University of Missouri-Kansas City and her post-doctoral hours at Trinity Hospital in Minot, North Dakota. In 2011, she was delighted to return to Iowa and begin private practice.  Dr. Brittain has done both therapy and assessment in the past but is currently focusing her practice on assessment. She is Level1Certified in Therapeutic Assessment and is currently working toward the highest level of certification (Level 2) in this approach to the assessment process.

In reflecting on her work, Dr. Brittain shares, “I have been incredibly blessed in a number of ways in my life, not the least of which is the opportunity to have found a career I am so inspired by. I am proud and honored to do my life’s work as a psychologist.”  She has experience working with individuals (children, adolescents, adults, and older adults), couples, families, and community groups/organizations. Dr. Brittain enjoys opportunities to get out into the community by providing educational programs. In the office, Dr. Brittain provides assessment and feels it is a joy and an honor to see people come to understand themselves and their family members better through this process.  She has witnessed how this new and better understanding helps to get people the supports and help they need, as well as to increase the compassion they have for themselves.  It can also help families find a way forward when they feel stuck.  Collaborative/therapeutic assessment can be a great adjunct to therapy as well, and Dr. Brittain often works with clients and their therapists to help answer their questions through the assessment process.

In assessment, Dr. Brittain utilizes a Collaborative/Therapeutic Assessment approach to the process.  She specializes in educational, cognitive, diagnostic, and psychological testing, meaning she can help people identify and better understand attention difficulties and/or ADHD, Autism spectrum symptoms (including Asperger’s and Pervasive Developmental Disorders), learning difficulties (ex: math, reading, “dyslexia”), mood or anxiety symptoms, thinking and processing styles and patterns, and other symptoms or diagnoses. Collaborative/Therapeutic Assessment can also help to illuminate personality and relationship patterns that may be contributing to stress or difficulties.
