David is a licensed psychologist and offers psychotherapy and psychological testing in both English and Spanish. In psychotherapy, David practices primarily from a psychoanalytic/psychodynamic lens. Instead of focusing on quick fixes, we explore deep emotional & relational patterns—often rooted in childhood or other important relationships—to understand how they still play out today. These patterns probably used to help you cope, and maybe even helped you survive trauma. By bringing new awareness to these patterns, we open space for new insights, greater control, emotional peace, and a deeper understanding of who you are and how you got here. Essentially, instead of focusing only on your symptoms, we treat the thing that gives rise to the symptoms in the first place, so that over time, you have more control over your life, and subsequently have fewer symptoms. There will be times that we incorporate many other types of therapy that are specific to your needs and desires. Flexibility is important, and we should feel free to talk with each other about what feels like it is working and not working for you.

David’s clinical expertise includes supporting individuals with complex personality dynamics, whether these manifest as recognized personality disorders (e.g. Borderline Personality Disorder) or as enduring personality styles that have become less adaptive over time. David’s other areas of expertise are with patients with complex trauma (CPTSD), especially relational and childhood trauma.

 

David also offers comprehensive psychological assessments for children and adults ages 6 and above with a focus on ADHD, autism, memory, personality, or cognitive & learning questions. We utilize brain games on the iPad, virtual reality apps, and in-depth questionnaires and interviews during testing together. David intends to offer psychological services with a liberatory approach. This includes psychotherapy that appreciates the social and political dynamics of human suffering including capitalism, carceral logics, and whiteness. He also has experience writing psychological letters of support for trans and GNC folks who are interested in utilizing hormone replacement therapy or surgery. He has published several articles in critical social science journals that are available upon request.
 

David accepts Wellmark insurance and has a limited number of spots available for free and sliding scale patients who need financial assistance.
